I have only started the episode, so maybe it's explained after the point in the episode that I'm at, but how are you playing a game that takes at least 3 players with only two players? The first thing I look at on a game is "# of Players" to see how big a group I need.
I imagine that you guys don't have a great experience with this game, but if you want a good game that works well with Hidden Betrayers and Skill Checks that's a lot easier to understand than Battlestar, check out "The Resistance". But make sure that when you do you have a group of at least 5 people, it's better with a larger group.

Aw, thanks, guys! I feel special. And I'm downloading Bejeweled right now. Yes, I'm probably the last person in the western world to start playing that game.

(And do you mean you've actually figured out how to play the game I sent? I had wondered if it was even possible.)

Another great show! I know I shouldn't be surprised that there is a coffee game that doesn't have much to do with coffee. Curtis, if you have an iPhone (I'm not looking to see if it's on other devices), you should download the Cup Magic app.

Hey Ryan! I don't have any of those systems. That would be great if you could check out the rules and see what that game says. We would probably still be doing the episode if we hadn't decided to call it a draw. Let us know what you find! Thanks!

Great episode, guys! Sorry the game disappointed...

May I suggest you play the lesser known prequel: "Doodlebops, Get to the Back of the Bus! (The Rosa Parks Story)"

Color is often a problem in games for me, since I'm color blind. Maybe that's why they picked the colors I did?

Why are the scores all multiples of 10!?
It seemed like they could more sensibly have had scores 1-6. Yes/no?

You should try Backgammon on a wooden board with small dice, like the ones used in Greece and Turkey (it's no fun without clattering sounds or with bulky dice). The game is supposed to be played VERY QUICKLY, so you need to practice until you don't need to count anymore. Only then you get the real thing – it's a rather awesome game! You always play until one side scores 5 points, the winner gets to start the next round.

The 'Lawyer Box' L is an L plate (at least here in the UK). Learner drivers stick it on their car to show all the other drivers that they'll be driving REALLY slowly.

This episode was hilarious. I may have to listen to the others. I came here via a link from @storycubes on twitter.

Thank you

I will be giving your show a listen and wish you all the best.

Love you Game Night Guys! As always your repartee makes me LOL at work. Also, for whatever it's worth, I didn't get the Cookie Fu instructions, but I'm a visual learner like Brian. I couldn't decide on my fave homemade cookie, so I settled on two: (good) oatmeal-cranberry & (not-so-good) chewy choco chip. Keep up the great work!

Grasshoppers, your Cookie Fu definitely needs practice. Anytime you'd like to chat with the Grandmaster, I'd be more than happy to help instruct you in the "Way of the Cookie".

Ah Mr. Bento. You Sir have good taste! I've got a few bento boxes myself. ^_-

Did I mention that my wife was Japanese? I was just over there again in November. Japan is a beautiful country. "Anata no 'Cookie Fu review' wa totemo sugoi deshita. Domo arigatou gozaimashita!"

What were the songs you used this time around? The 8-bit-y rock song was nifty!

Based on the photograph, I assume you guys figured out that 4 sticks of butter equal a pound.

A parlour is the formal sitting room. In America, large homes built in the Victorian age (1800s) had the luxury of a parlour for receiving company. Today we would call it a formal living room.

We submitted our podcast to the Zune Marketplace earlier this week. We aren't sure how long it takes for them to approve our submission. Hopefully we will hear back from them soon.

Hey guys, great podcast! Listened to it while on a long train ride to Chicago's 'burbs.

Did you know that checkers is a solved game? There is a mathematically correct way to play that ensures you no worse a fate than a draw (like taking 3 corners in your first 3 turns in tic-tac-toe). I'm not totally sure on how to play a perfect game because I haven't studied it (yet), as I don't have access to the study and am not smart enough to figure it out on my own.

If you're interested, the study is:
Checkers Is Solved
Schaeffer et al.
Science 14 September 2007: 1518-1522
DOI: 10.1126/science.1144079

According to Wikipedia, other solved two-player games include Connect 4, Maharajah and the Sepoys (my favorite Chess variant), Tic-Tac-Toe, and Awari.

Monopoly was one our favorite board games and myself, two sons and a nephew would play some very competitive games - lots of negotiating and deal making. We added a twist to the game with the addition of a "fifth player" being the stock market. It was a way to build cash fast that could be parlayed into properties. I have posted on online version of the stock game. We used the thimble token for the market. All that is needed is wifi - playbullsnbears.com.

Very entertaining, guys. I'd love to hear more interviews incorporated into the podcast if a particular game lends itself to it. I listened to this episode at the gym, where they probably think I am crazy because I think I laughed out loud a couple times. Thanks for publicly embarrassing me.

Also, who can confirm this? I always thought Reading Railroad was pronounced like the city in Pennsylvania (or, if you like, Otis Redding). Anyone? Anyone?

You guys wondered aloud about Gin Rummy in any movies. “Born Yesterday” has a famous game where the dumb blonde (Judy Holliday) beats her gangster boyfriend (Broderick Crawford). “Born Yesterday” was a hit play on Broadway and the film is very close to the stage version.

Another Broadway play was filmed twice for television. “The Gin Game”, first made in 1981 was a recreation of the 1977 play, which won the Tony Award for best play and the Pulitzer Prize in 1978. In the film, Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn reprise their Broadway roles as residents of a retirement home who battle over the game of cards. It all takes place on the front porch and is filled with a great amount of humor and some bittersweet moments as these two get to know one another. The dialogue is quick and intricate it has been said that Cronyn had some of his lines written on the card table. Tandy and Cronyn were married in real life and it’s not hard to believe that some of the verbal daggers written into the play could have hit very close to home.

In 2003 it was remade starring Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke. The story was opened up so that not all of the story took place on the porch. It wasn’t improved in doing so and is a far less satisfying experience.

This game was pretty horrible - much like the books and movie which I will admit to seeing/reading.

Whenever I was back in WNY on breaks from college, I'd go over to my buddy's apartment and we'd walk to our favorite watering hole, plop down in the table by the corner window and play gin rummy (we just called it gin) and down pitchers of beer all night long. Those were consistently my favorite nights out at the bars, just two guys playing cards for no stakes.

We usually played Hollywood scoring but I don't know how to score it (especially when drinking), so I always had him score the games. Funny how I usually lost...

I've collected your episodes up to this on my iPod, just now finally listened to an episode, and it happened to be this one. Very cute. I had my doubts about the listenability of two guys playing a board game, but before I knew it, the episode was coming to an end. I thought next that you guys should do Farkle, because that's the most recent game I've played, and I'm not much of a game player in the first place, but kinda enjoyed it. Then I visit your site and see that's the most recent episode. Trippy. Looking forward to listening to more.

In particular, I think you'd enjoy the game Cookie Fu or Inn Fighting, found on the RPG dice games page. Cheers!

Music group with W: Weezer! C'mon!
Brian - I remember playing Scattergories at Julie's house early on at SWOSU. I'm pretty sure you were there. I just remember I used "beer" a lot when we got the letter b. Not very creative.
My cousin and I love playing a game called Huggermugger. It has to do with spelling, vocabulary, word scrambles, etc. She rocks at it and I suck, but we still have fun playing.
Great job on your first podcast, even if you had to do it twice!

Hey guys - saw Sarah's link on twitter and looked around - and imagine my surprise when I saw we were one of a short list of other podcasts you have a link to! Thanks - I will be sure to add you guys once I update the blogroll over on our...um, blog.

Are you guys on iTunes yet? I can't seem to find you, nor can I figure out how to download your show so I can listen to it in the car tomorrow. Let me know, ok?

Good luck with the podcasting, and welcome to the club - it's a fun little group of weirdos you're joining.
