Rory’s Story Cubes

This week, we are tapping into our imaginations and telling stories using Rory’s Story Cubes. Along the way we learn that Mike’s mom has been listening to a few back episodes. We also compare Brian’s old neighborhood with his new one. All this, lawyer boxes, Native American Aunt Silverfish and much more.

There is still a little time to cast your vote in our listener suggested poll on Facebook. (Or you can email us, leave us a voicemail or tweet us.)

Stay Alive

Tonight we play the marble dropping game of strategy, Stay Alive. Who will be the sole survivor?

Don’t forget to cast your vote in our listener suggested poll on Facebook. (Or you can email us, leave us a voicemail or tweet us. SO MANY other options!)

Encore

How much do Mike & Brian love How Much Do We Love…? We love it a lot. We also love Sara Davis & Rob Lindley? So much! Tonight, they join us for a rousing game of Encore, the board game that tests your memory and knowledge of music lyrics.

We also do a quick round of HMDWL. Things we love include Mrs. Meyer’s Lavender Dish Soap, bonus packs & travel sizes, roasting broccoli, bad movies streaming on Netflix Instant: Vegas in Space, Under the Cherry Moon, Dilemma and Can’t Stop the Music.

We want to thank Rob & Sara for joining us tonight for such a fun game night. You can find their awesome podcast at howmuchdowelove.com or on iTunes. If you aren’t already listening to them, y’all need to get on that. Follow them on Twitter: @howmuchdowelove and also individually: Sara is @sallypnut and Rob is @lindleyrob.

Titanic, The Board Game

Much like the Titanic itself, this episode is both epic and tragic. But of course, being us, it is also extremely juvenile. Join us as we travel from the back of the ship in second class and work our way through first class to the poop deck and eventually safety as we play Titanic, The Board Game.

Thanks to Game Night Guys super friend Daniel for donating this game to the show. Follow him on Twitter: @danielphillip.

Kittenwar

Due to technical difficulties, we had to do a last minute switcheroo with this week’s game and play the ridiculous and ridiculously cute War-like card game, Kittenwar. Aside from all the feline chatter, we also talk about Brian’s recent trip to Oklahoma and Mike’s Pride weekend.

Foodie Fight

The game Foodie Fight is known as a trivia game for serious food lovers, so we called in the big guns from the laugh-out-loud funny podcast Spilled Milk. Matthew Amster-Burton and Molly Wizenberg join us to talk games, recipes and “food as fear.”

Big thanks to Matthew and Molly for being on the show. We had so much fun! You can find their podcast at spilledmilkpodcast.com or on iTunes.

Recipes from Foodie Fight Episode

Angry Black Bitch’s Corn Casserole Yumminess
(republished with permission of a Bitch.)

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

  • 1 can whole kernel corn, drained
  • 1 can creamed corn
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 box Jiffy Corn Muffin mix
  • 1 stick butter, melted (or 1/2 c. oil)
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 1/4 – 1/2 tsp. garlic powder (opt.)
  • Shredded cheese (opt.)

Mix all ingredients except cheese. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top, if desired. Bake in casserole dish or 9″x13″ baking dish for 30 to 45 minutes or until fully cooked in center.

Yum!

Notes from Brian: I add shredded cheese to the batter as well as top it with cheese because I’m all about the cheese. I and many of my friends have sometimes added diced green chili peppers to the batter to give it a Southwest touch.

Mike’s Mom’s Broccoli Soup

  • 2 10oz bags of frozen broccoli
  • 2 big brown onions
  • 4 cups of water
  • 4 chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 pound butter (or 3/4 cups)
  • 8 tablespoons flour
  • 4 cups of milk
  • 2 packages of cream cheese

Put the broccoli, onions, water, bouillon cubes and salt into the soup pan.  Cook until tender.  Do not drain.

Meanwhile, melt the butter and gradually stir in the flour.  Add the milk.  Melt in the cream cheese.  Stir constantly (the bottom will burn easily).  When the cream mixture is smooth add it to the veggie mixture.  Cook until hot.

Yum!
